In church today, the officiating minister
introduced the day as the Good Shepherd Sunday. Readings from the bible were
taken. These readings have been carefully selected to buttress the meaning of
the Good Shepherd.
I am particularly excited about the reading
taken from the gospel (John 10: 11-18). Jesus speaking to us directly, tells us
that he is the good shepherd, and that a good shepherd lays his life for the
sheep. If Christ is the good shepherd, who then is his sheep? I am his sheep. You too should be one, if you are not, it is not late to make that choice, to be a
sheep in his flock.
When Jesus taught his apostles, he taught with practical
examples. He did not just say he is a Good Shepherd, he lived the life of one
and ultimately laid his life for his sheep, which is the greatest show of love
that can come from anyone (John 15:13).
The Good Shepherd does all in his
powers to protect his sheep from the evil ones. And I know he is almighty, so
why won’t I choose to be his sheep? If God be for me, who can be against me? (Romans
8:31) …even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no
evil, the psalmist declares (Psalm 23:4). The Good Shepherd also does all in his powers
to provide for all my needs. The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want. He
calms our fears. In the midst of a troubled world, he gives us peace (John 15:33).
The Good Shepherd is all in all. He is that
Blessed Assurance we all need to cling on to, but it’s all up to you today. We should emulate him and live good examplary lives in our individual worlds; our family, work place, school, community etc.
Happy
Sunday friends and I wish you a great week ahead.
Nice post Engr Egwumba or should I say Pastor Egwumba :=D Jesus laid down his life that we might have life eternal, wonder how anyone won't see him as a good shepherd.
ReplyDeleteWe just need to keep reminding ourselves of certain things in life; things like what Jesus did (is doing) for us.
