My Favourite Social Media Acronyms... lol!

Yay, whatever that means…lol. I have come to discover that every social media has its own short-codes – abbreviations and acronyms (or is it shorthand?) that are commonly used. In blogsville, I always see “Yay” and I till now, I have not really understood it. It reminds me of a neighbour I used to have, who whenever he returns from work and goes into his house, give him 5 minutes or so and the next thing you will hear is his voice screaming “yaaaaaaay!” Till this day, I still don’t gerrit... Chincobee, please help me out ooo, mbok.

Anyways, back to my post. How often do you use acronyms and abbreviations when you blog, chat, or post a comment on any of the social media you belong to. Some people have MSc in it. They use it so much so that it now affects their formal writing. God help them they don’t go for an interview and put on the spot to write a short essay or their application there and then... LMAO ROFL.
I use abbreviations too o, but not so much. Somehow, you can’t just help but to use it, no matter how disciplined you are (you can prove me wrong shaa). My favourite short-code is “lol”. The last time I checked, I was told it meant “Laugh Out Loud”; I have loved it ever since... Shea, doctors say laugh is good naa, that it helps relieve the body of some stress… and so I lol, let them stress leave moi.
FTC is very popular on Erniesha Tibs blog. I didn’t need to be told that it means “First To Comment”. I get amused at the way people hustle to be FTC like there is a reward attached to it. Abeg, if there is a reward, someone should tell me o, I know I am up to the task.
This other one PS is common too on blogsville. Hardly will Duru make a post without a PS and you will be wondering, what is this PS seef… Pheezy recently discovered that it means “Postscript”; which is simply an addition to the end of a letter, post, essay, or a major writing. Most times, it deviates from the actual Script. It is used to pass additional info (another abbreviation) by the writer.
Have you seen “btw” b4 (before)? To some people, it is an abbreviation for between, to others, it is an acronym for “By The Way”. I think it is the usage that determines which it is. Lemme (let me) share some more with you.
JK – Just Kidding
KK – Okay (Kewl Kewl); I hate the way ladies use this one... it can be so annoying.
OMG – Oh My God
LMAO – Laugh My Ass Out
ROFL – Roll On the Floor Laughing
WTF – What the F*** (don’t use the “F” word)
TTYL – Talk To You Later
TYT – Take Your Time
GTG – Got To Go
BRB – Be Right Back
BF & GF – Boy Friend & Girl Friend
AWOL – Away While On Line
B4N – Bye For Now
TGIF – Thank God Its Friday
LWKMD – Laugh Wan Kill Me Die
XOXO – Hugs and Kisses (However that relates, I don’t know)
I will stop here. Pls (Please), now it's your turn to share with me the ones you know and I have not mention, especially the Naija (Nigerian) branded ones like Chisos (decode that for yourself).
PS: I told you I was going to enjoy party rice on Salah day; I did and still have plenty left in the fridge. My Blog mother’s share is there too and yours, even you Esther …lol. If you are still interested, reach me before the end of today.

I can't do wrong when party rice is involved: Afterall, everyday is not Salah

You are on point with Chisos. You are an efiko o.

See eeeh, inasmuch as you try your best not to use abbreviations, try more than your best not to use "kk", that's the one I hate most - it can kill spirit just like that.

  2. Thing is, I do not use abbreviations to shorten my sentences. It's quite annoying. I do the 'lol' 'P.S' and maybe a few other abbreviations in the dictionary. None of the close friends I keep uses IJN, HBD because I just can't stand it. What's wrong with 'In Jesus' Name'? This our generation is too impatient biko. LLNP. What's that? Argrrrrrrh....

By the way, I am game for jollof rice. I didn't get a single plate here. My area is Christian-infested. #chai. *bites finger*

FFF can have several meanings, yours can be one of it, but the one I had in mind is "Friend For Food" - that friend we had because we could count on them anytime to help settle our stomach matter...lol (Back then in school).
