She took my Hands

On this faithful day, I was on my way back from work. The road was tight with the usual after the rain Lagos holdup. It rained cats and dogs for the greater part of the day. Now the rain has stop and people are trying to find their way home. I was a few minutes away from my bustop and the keke I entered got stuck in the holdup like permanently. I got tired of sitting inside keke and so I decided to trek the rest of the distance.
I had just trekked for about a minute when I was interrupted by a young lady who sought to verify the direction she had to take in order to get to her destination. I described it to her, but it was the same route I was going to take, so I told her, and she decided to walk on with me. That was when I took a good look at her; in a quest to search myself for anything I could gist with her as we walked on. Then did I discovered her; one charming & beautiful looking agbani, of course, she was lekpa too – not that I have anything for lepka girls shaa o.
Physical beauty is not just enough… I had to do a quick search of her inside. I wanted to get a clear first impression of that side of her and so this inspired our conversation and in about 5 minute of the trek down our route, we had chat about a lot: bad roads in Lagos and how it becomes most evident in the raining season, Bank Verification Number (BVN) and the need to do it, Nigerian politics and politician (this was before the 2015 general elections), hustling in the city of Lagos, a little about my work and herself.
At a point in the journey it threaten to rain again as thunder struck a couple of times. I told her I was close to my house and could invite her if the rain came down. (na play play talk ooo). She told me she didn’t would appreciate it provided the woman of the house (my house – my babe) would not pour hot water on her. We laughed over it. I don’t know why she spit it out, but she did; she told me she was single, but a mother as though to warn me before I get too excited about her…lol. Na wa o!
I guess I was getting a little excited about her (who does that?) not even minding she was a stranger, someone I just met in less than 10 minutes. We got to a very bad path of the road where we had to take extra care to pass through. I passed first and offered her a helping hand and she accepted; she held my hands as she carefully came along. Her palm felt so soft and comforting, the type you don't want to leave to soon, but I had to let it go.  Now we got the bustop where she had to board a bus to her area and it was time to part. I then asked her name (imagine, we had talked a lot and I didn’t even know her name) and she responded; “what’s the need? It’s not like we are going to see again”. Then I told her it was up to us to know if we would see again. My head started ringing… I am not sure why but I ended up not collecting her number, and bid her farewell as I moved on… I didn’t even look back, till I disappeared.
Lol… all this gist seef! Anyways, I would be glad to see your comments… Tell me all you think is ok or wrong about every part or any part of this gist. Did you observe desperation; was it on my part of the lady’s?
Sometimes, we get ourselves into situations we consider harmless even though they can end up hurting. We stirrup emotions we have no business meddling with, when we should have just let the sleeping dog to lie. Who says we should stay out of those situations or that person, you just might find something or someone that is destined to be part of your life’s story, and the confusion goes on...

Thanks to you who have always accused me of giving you unfinished gists. Hope you are happy now… lol. Till the next time I summon enough courage to blog, cheers! I will be reading your comments and responding to them. Thanks again.

  1. Finally! A complete gist. I didn't see desperation on anyone's part, just a very strong attraction. But my guy, why you slack like this?

  2. Chai!!! You try sha. . No one was desperate but you certainly left a good impression. Am certain that the next time you people will meet she will remember you for good. And maybe offer you her number without you asking... I feel good when i have good conversations with strangers who I won't be forced to meet again..

    1. I am nearly sure that I will never meet her again. I don't know why I feel so, but if it happens that I see her again, it will be great. Having a good conversation with a stranger is actually a rear thing... I am really suprised I pull this one through without even collecting phone no... fine geee ooo! lol.

      Thanks Gabby for your comment.
