Lesson from last Week

Yaaay! I am back. It’s good to be back, even though I didn’t go anywhere. My days all through last week were very hectic. I got so busy with work and at work that I barely had any time for myself. My blog suffered too. As much as I wanted to blog, I couldn’t find the time to. It was frustrating seeing notifications from my favourite blogs and not being able to go through them as timely as I used to. I checked my last post, seeing your comments and not being able to respond to them on the spot did not go well with me. But I thank God we are in a new week. I need to face the days ahead squarely, take each moment as they arise and always come out feeling great at the end – it’s a choice I (you) have to make and follow up.
There is a lesson I learnt within the week and I would like to share with you: we are only humans and we have our limits. In my physics class, I was thought that once an elastic body exceeds its limit, it gets to breakpoint or a point of permanent deformation. This applies to us as humans. Our bodies have been well made by the creator and we all have our various capacities. We should know how much we can take from what life throws at us, both from the things we voluntarily involve ourselves with and those compelled on us. It was Socrates who said “man, know thy self”; guess he had this in mind when he said that.
We should not neglect the knowledge of our individual capacities. We take a great risk when we over stretch ourselves. It is no longer news that some of the leading causes of death in our society are stress related. You may wonder what would make a fully grown man slump all of a sudden and the next thing you hear is that he has passed on, or a person you saw bubbling in the morning, admitted in the hospital before the end of the day.
Friends, please we have only one life to live and every decision we make while living our lives count. One of the secret to long life is keeping one’s stress level as low as possible. I say this because we cant avoid stress especially in the kind of community we find ourselves (speaking as a Lagosian, don't know about you), but we can manage it. Our lifestyle needs be guided and not taken for granted. Don't go sending yourself to an early grave. Here are some helpful tips I will like to share with you to reduce/mange your stress level:
-         Find time to rest regularly,
-         Don’t drink or smoke when you feel stressed or worried; you take it to reduce stress or suppress your worries, but end up compounding your problems (reducing your mortality rate).
-         Eat healthy and not just for eating sake as we usually do and try eat timely too
-         Improve on your psychology on contentment and gratitude.
-         Try not to let things (problems and cares) of the past cause you to worry too much.
-         Don’t deprive yourself of sleep, our body needs it.
-         Live your live loving and caring and understanding.
-        Find time to exercise.
-         Work on having and keeping a healthy relationship with your partner.
-         Plan your finances, whether you have a job or are out of job
-         Live within your limits – no fake lives.
-     Stay connected to God, he tells us through his son to cast all our cares upon him...

I didn’t just figure these things over night, the past week only made me think more about it and I decided to share with you. Hope they are indeed helpful. May God help us all as we try to live better lives.
Need to go iron my cloths for the week, I wish you could help out...lol.
Have a lovely week ahead.
Cheers!

  5. Nice lessons Ugo! I definitely love the last one. I think it's time to set up weekly mantras for myself even though the last time I tried it, it didn't work as I went against all that I had set *covers face*

    1. I will take it that you are exaggerating when you say you went against all that you had set. Anyways, see this as an encouragement to try it again. With a little more discipline, you will do better.

    1. The nothingness of life...
Accept my sympathy for the loss. May God grant his family and loved ones the fortitude to bear the loss.

Times like this give us another opportunity to reflect on the shortness and nothingness of life and the need to live every passing seconds well.

      May God help us all.

  9. You have said well Ugo. We always think we can do all things but the Bible added "through Christ that strengthens us" You dont have to wait till you reach your breaking point to know when to slow down and take a chill pill. Stress is a dangerous killer, i stressed myself last week and i saw the negative effect but all is well....
    Have a great week Ugo.

    1. "...through Christ that strengthens us", and that is why we should stay connected to him always.
You know one funny thing Nkem; it seems to be those who are more equipped with this knowledge (the danger of stress and how to manage it) that seem to take it for granted the most.
