Man Proposes...

Hello friends, what’s guan in your hood? I have missed you guys. I planned to spend my weekend here but at times, when man proposes God disposes… and that has been the story for me this weekend; I have spent a greater part of my weekend in the hospital instead of with you like I planned.
Hospital has never been in the list of my favourite places. I can count the number of times I have spent up to 30 mins in the four walls of a hospital for any reason. Thinking about this could be funny, because I once keenly nursed the idea of becoming a medical practitioner. As a kid, I had this thing for medical stuffs and I worked towards it, but as God disposes when man proposes, I ended up an Engineering graduate; no thanks to Jamb and my impatience.
Okay... for your concerned minds, I am hale and hearty. The time I spent in the hospital is because I had to be there for a friend of mine who fell sick all of a sudden. At work last week Friday, this friend sent me a message that she had been admitted, so after work, I went to the hospital. I stayed with her till it was late at night. I was there again on Saturday after the Lagos state general clean-up exercise (environmental as we like to call it here) and spent good hours there…didn’t stay there the whole day though cause I had to go do my laundry. Today is Sunday, I was there after church and guess I’ll be there again before the end of the day. What’s going through your minds right now? "Naaaa! This girl must be more than a friend to him..." I didn't say anything ooo.
My being at the hospital this period has really given me time to reflect on life and its nothingness. How often do we plan and end up where we never expected. Some eat well and leave healthy, but sometimes still fall sick and even die. Some plan to be Medical Doctors and end up as traders, taxi drivers, banker etc. How all you ever wanted is peace, but the more you mind your business, the more trouble comes to you. How you dream big and expect better but get less. How you plan big for your parents (or that person) deserving of reaping from their toils on you over the years, only to get the news that they passed on. You think you have meet Mr/Ms right, only to realise that you are just being used... I can go on.
We make plans and it is very important we do. Whenever the outcome of our plans falls short of the expected results, we should always remember that Homo proponit, sed Deus disponit”, a Latin word which when translated to English means "Man proposes, but God disposes". God is always aware of our situations, and He wants the best for us all; His plans should supersede ours, but that is our choice to make. All God expects of us is to let Him take the lead, make his plans preeminent, when we do, no matter the outcome of our plans, we will see God’s hand in it and give him the glory – a secret to inner peace.
Alright, gatta go back to the hospital now. I ask God to grant quick recovery to the sick, especially this friend of mine… Hospital is not a funny place to be, sickness no bi yam o.

Cheers!

  1. Blessings to you and a speedy recovery to your friend.
In island of Trinidad and Tobago we have a saying, "you want to make God laugh, make plans," which amount to the same "man proposes God disposes."

    Thanks for sharing.

    p.s.
The reason "we" should continue to plan is so we give ourselves purpose along the way God will let us know which is good and hold to and which is not and to let go of. It is why we should learn to be like the willow tree and be flexible to move and flow with the change of time and circumstance.

    peace.

    1. Rhapsody, lovely perspective from your p.s. You know, too often we get impatient and just take the next turn, not minding God's plan for us... Being flexible to move and flow with the changes of time and circumstances takes grace.

  5. We are in the best capacity to make plans, but only God disposes. So many factors comes to play the moment you are at the point of executing your plan...that's why its becomes so important to always back up our plan with prayers.

I hope your friend is fine? Wished her quick recovery.

  7. Man really proposes, and God does His will. You know the hospital is not really a place anyone wants to be, we just need to be grateful always for life. Am glad your friend is out now..
