Handbills Sharing Nuisance

Friends, how has it been? The weekend is here again, I hope you spent your week meaningfully. I don’t understand why I did this post, but I did it anyways. Just today, as nearly every other day I step out on the streets of Lagos, I find one person or more somewhat compelling me to collect a piece of printed paper. These handbills contain all sorts of information especially adverts from religious bodies, health groups, stores, so called jobs employers etc.

Now this is how I feel when they stretch to give me these handbills (fliers): “Guy, take this paper, help me trash it.”  Seriously!
From experience, I have come to realise that sharing of handbills is one of the worst forms of advertisement. In every 10 handbills I receive on the street, I only manage to glance through 1. I don’t even think you glance through any at all... Say the truth. Lol. Why waste resource then, when it ends up in the trash without achieving its mission? I always trash fliers that get to me even before I know it - most times I do this rather unconsciously.
Very annoying is the way they nearly force this papers at you that you unconsciously collect it, only to realise that you have a piece of paper already in your hand as though they use jazz on you… Na wa o for those people o! They end up making the environment littered with their handbills especially those ones doing a mobile campaign or advert.
This guy gave me a handbill the other day, somewhere around computer village, Ikeja – Lagos (for those of you that think I am referring to Abuja… **tongue out**). I glanced through it on the spot, and it was an advert for jobs - receptionist, cleaners  and the likes. I stopped and took a good look at the guy… Normally, I don’t look down on people or judging people, but I was forced to this time around. I nearly wanted to started preaching to the guy, looking so unkempt, hungry as one who really needs a job himself. I just don’t gerrit! Who sends them seeef? What are their real intentions, cause there is obviously more to it o? I still don't gerrit!

What do you think about handbills and these handbill sharers, or what should call them? Or do you share fliers on the street too?

Cheers!

PS. Why do you keep planning your weekends without putting me in your plans? There is God ooo! You berra change o...lol.

  1. I share handbills and receive handbills for evangelism. Ugo, you're right it can be a nuisance sometimes. But you know, if one person out if a 100 persons I give handbills too was blessed. Then I'll be glad it wasn't a futile activity after all.

With this point of mine, I hope I've been able to convince you that handbills are not totally useless. *rme*

  4. Usually i take it and I dont read it. I get home and realise i dont even have it anymore. Throwing it away or leaving it somewhere is like an involuntary action. But I'm going to try and read it from now on cos some of them can be very informative.

  5. I actually planned to do a post on this sometime in April. I snapped pictures of those guys sharing vacancy hand bills in Oshodi. I was so pissed that I even asked one why didn't you apply for the job, unfortunately it was that same night my bb crashed, lolz
I don't even like collecting them, even in church cos I end up thrashing them.

  6. That job handbills don tire me biko. Even at times they will see you carry loads with your hands and they still wanna squeeze it there geez. I trash d handbills immediately and even if I don't collect, I know what's in there

Funny though when I collect handbills for evangelism, I don't trash them on time. I will be like " God is watching oooo" Ahahahhahahaha but later I will be like "gbagbe jorrrr" God knows I have read the word!!!!

Eeya... your leave finally ended, chai! I am happy for you shaa, am sure you used the break well; achieved a lot and also rested well. Don't worry about waking up early, your body clock will adjust faster than you think.

All those handbills, be it job, campaign, evangelism handbill or what have you, all are handbills and no matter what you realise that we end up treating them same way - trashing them. As for those evangelism ones, don't worry God will understand (dis I just say that?) ***SmileS***

  7. Well those that will read will read.
If those sharing job fliers had a better job, they won't be all over.
